The Founders
The Storied Life is founded by sisters Lana and Jilene Jackson, and their culturally curious, story-driven, and fashion-forward voice.
Lana Jackson thrives on being challenged creatively, as she has demonstrated versatility in transitioning to multiple careers in Fashion Design, Art History, and the Performing Arts where she has worked for The John F. Kennedy Center and Ford’s Theatre, among others. She holds degrees in Product Development from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angles and Art History from American University in Washington, DC. Lana’s fashion photography has been featured in Soho House and fashion campaigns for Farm Rio and Black-Owned luxury jeweler Third Crown. As a bit of a curious polymath and multi-hyphenate, Lana is also the co-founder of The Storied Life, a lifestyle media and e-commerce site that provides an exclusive, behind-the-story look into fashion. Lana’s love for the entertainment and fashion industries find their home at The Storied Life, where she’s interviewed industry professionals like Jolie Andreatta the Costume Designer of Suits, Lauren Napier the resident makeup artist for Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and Peggy Li whose jewelry designs can be found on hit shows like Riverdale, Little Fires Everywhere, and The Bachelorette. She currently resides in Washington, D.C.
Jilene Jackson pivoted her early career and education in Behavioral Psychology to launch a consulting company that provides brands in the D.C. metro area with digital marketing, web and graphic design, and social media strategy. As a design creative, Jilene’s AR fashion app prototype was a finalist for luxury fashion retailer NET-A-PORTER’s The Incredible Girls of the Future competition. Her UX Design Masters Thesis project on the American Eagle Outfitters iOS Virtual Try-On feature won the 2021 UX Design Masters Thesis Capstone Award for excellence in UX Design, in earning a Masters of Professional Studies in User Experience Design (M.P.S UXD) from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). And her fashion photography has been featured in Bowie Lifestyle and Verily Magazine. As the co-founder of The Storied Life, Jilene is passionate about telling brand stories, capturing fashion forward photography, and developing marketing strategies for The Storied Life that create a lasting bond between consumers and brands. She holds a Master’s Degree in UX Design and is certified in Front-End Development from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), where she lends her skills in front-end web coding to design and maintain the user interface of The Storied Life’s website. Jilene currently works as a UX/UI Designer delivering sleek, modern, and user-friendly software that uses psychology and style to humanize and beautify websites and apps that make our technology useful for our daily lives.
The stories that recover the humanity in retail and the curiosity in the creative process are the stories that have inspired this work. Our desire is to be more than just influencers in our generation, we want to be influential connoisseurs and cultural filters, sparking conversation through our work about the people, ideas, and stories that matter most. We hope you enjoy the stories of the people, products, and brands we’ve discovered.
Love,
