A look at the inspiration that brought “The Great Escape” collection to life
The design team at Club Monaco was gracious to give us a look at their Spring/Summer 2019 collection. In celebration of the new season ahead, let’s review the inspiration that brought this collection to life.
According to Club Monaco’s head of design, Steven Cateron, “this season, inspired by Oaxaca and Mexico City, cities that are full of culture, soul, and spirit.” While the ease of the collection clearly illustrates that Great Escape sentiment, we at The Storied Life feel the collection could have captured the Latin sensibility of Oaxaca and Mexico City. These cities, known for palettes and prints that feature, rich and warm colors. This collection seems to lack any reference to the vibrant Latin people who are the soul and the spirit of Oaxaca and Mexico City.
From flowy chemise dresses to loose pleated skirts and delicate camisole tops, Club Monaco Spring Summer 2019 collection evokes that feeling of escape. Likewise, this theme of escapism fits in with this season’s focus on vacation-ready edits. Additionally, the collection also fits in the current theme of wearable wanderlust that we’re seeing in collections from other brands. Shop the collection below:
