A women-led ethical jewelry brand and manufacturing platform that brings together a modern aesthetic with global market access to artisan communities and jewelry designers in Kenya.
Matthew Harris of MATEO New York was born and raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica and upon completing his undergrad studies, I discovered his true passion in New York City – the art of Jewelry making. Matthew Harris is part of the community of black-owned jewelry designers that The Storied Life is excited to feature. Much of Mateo New York’s success is due to a continuous effort in making modern, relatable fine jewelry at an approachable price point.
The jewelry entrepreneur behind Mejuri is Noura Sakkijha who comes from three generations of Jordanian jewelers, designing fine jewelry is in Sakkijha’s blood. She used her savvy for engineering to ensure that the production of the lines was efficient and ethical and the jewelry affordable. Noura states, “I founded Mejuri because I saw a jewelry industry that was built for men gifting women and not women celebrating themselves. To me, the truest expression of Mejuri is mutual uplift: all of us supporting each other, and you, our community, feeling empowered to invest in yourself and, in turn, the community around you”.
